Nu Beta is the Georgia Institute of Technology undergraduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. The chapter was chartered on April 14, 1979 at 3:00 p.m. by 8 diligent women.
They knew the women of Georgia Tech needed a Sorority that represented the scholarship, leadership, service and exemplary character indicative of an Alpha Kappa Alpha woman. Those women were Gail Reid, Evelyn Francine McCarley, Vernita Holmes, Cassandra Cunningham, Sheila Clayton, Barbara Burgess, Vanessa Weatherspoon and Reve' Pete. Their unselfish commitment has provided a haven for more than 200 women. The members of Nu Beta have been actively involved in the Tech community and local endeavors over 25 years.
The Never-ending Nu Beta Alumni Association (NNBAA) was established to provide support for the Nu Beta chapter members both past and present. Our goal is to provide scholarships and housing for the undergraduate Nu Beta sorors and to host Nu Beta’s alumni events. We will facilitate the five-year reunions; work diligently to keep sorors in contact with each other; and, as always, we will be of service to all mankind. With the outstanding members that have participated in establishing Nu Beta, we cannot afford to lose contact with one another. The saying is true, “It isn’t what you know, but who you know - and through the NNBAA, we believe you will strengthen linkages to the numerous Nu Beta Sorors that are making their mark on society.
